KORDONair was founded in 2018 at the historical border guard house (anno 1830). It offers residency possibilities to artists, architects, filmmakers, researchers etc to critically engage with the surroundings. KORDON is the member of Res Artis – Worldwide Network of Arts Residencies (2018) and LOORE – Estonian Creative Residencies Network (2022).
KORDONair (artist-in-residence) facilitates art in dialogue with architecture and nature. It explores social and artistic dimensions of space, diversity of culture and wilderness. The interdisciplinary residency is located in the UNESCO biosphere reserve on the border of Kärdla city, the capital of Hiiumaa island. The mission of the residency is to initiate discussions on the relationship between the built environment and nature, to create an international network and to involve the inhabitants of Hiiumaa island.
